Benefits & Considerations >> Pectoral Enlargement (Chest Implants)

What are the benefits of Pectoral Enlargement?

  • Improved body shape

  • Greater confidence and self-esteem

  • Minimal scarring which becomes virtually undetectable over time

What are the considerations?

  • Saline implants can make a liquid sound during physical activity
  • Although the risk is significantly less than in years gone by, there remains a small chance of capsular contracture with silicon implants. Scar tissue forms around the implant, tightening and squeezing it and causing the breast to harden
  • Smoking reduces oxygen in the blood which can result in wounds healing more slowly
  • Adverse reactions to anaesthesia occur very occasionally
  • Breast augmentation, particularly implants located behind the pectoral muscle, can be very painful to start with. This can be greatly relieved by the use of anti-inflammatories
  • Although highly unlikely if antibiotics are taken as prescribed, there remains a small chance of infection. In this event, the implant will have to be removed and it can not be replaced until the infection has disappeared completely and the scar formation process has ended. This typically takes about four months
  • There can be no guarantee of perfect symmetry
  • Keloids or hypertrophic scars develop in a very small number of cases
  • Nipples can become either more or less sensitive following surgery. This is almost always temporary
